Toy Prototype & Model Making

The Toy prototyping department within Curvature Group, was first established in 2006 using a team that had previously worked together for a combined 40 years. The team are a highly skilled group of sculptors, digital sculptors and model makers specializing in character generation and creative form development for the global toy industry. The scope is not just limited to figures alone. We are often asked to create the accessories for these figures such as vehicles, weapons and environments such as play sets and not forgetting the packaging too. These invariably result in fully engineered working prototypes prior to being sent to the Far East for production line manufacture.

The ‘Toy’ team have embraced new technologies continuously and combine the use of these packages such as SolidWorks, Freeform & Maya to create highly detailed rapid prototype components whilst retaining the ability to offer the more traditional hand sculpting techniques if and where requested.

Briefs in this industry are often very loose. They require a degree of interpretation and understanding of the clients needs. This relationship is always crucial to the success of the project and experience is second to nothing else in this area of design realisation. Briefs are interpreted with cost, knowledge of manufacturing and production approval in mind.

Scale Models

In addition to prototype models we also have an enviable reputation in the field of scale models for the Marine, Aerospace and Automotive industries.

We have used Curvature Group for boat models through to full size plugs and mould tools since we first embraced the use of fully up to date manufacturing and design development techniques and throughout this time, we have come to believe that they are the best at what they do. Each time they have delivered models/plugs & mould tools to the same exceptional standard and acute level of detail and accuracy that we demand of ourselves. Their experience and understanding of our product means we can hand a project over with confidence, knowing they will translate the information into a true scale model with minimum communications, on time and to budget. Nick and his team are true artisans.
